Just an exercise I have been doing, creating some worn metal using Maya and V-Ray, all using procedural shaders that Maya has to offer.

I might even write a tutorial on how to create this shader

Hey mate, I will try to have that tutorial done when I have some free time, I have been very busy lately and I couldn't take the time to record that tutorial. You can check out some of the tutorials on Digital Tutors there is actually a very good one which is for Mental Ray and it really shows you how to create some amazing metal shaders in Maya here is the link to that course [link]

Any shading tutorial will haelp you understand the basics of how to make a complex multilayered shader, if you check the course I did for DT you will have a good understanding on procedural texturing and how to use that with your own shaders.

Hope this helps!

hi. any chance of seeing a tutorial for this?? I ask again because that is the look I have been dying to get on some metal parts of a 3d model I am making. Please and respectful thank you if you would be so kid as to maybe post a small tut on your blog? or tips? steps? in a note? ..or maybe u can tell me where esl to find something like this. If i watch your tutorial on prodcural textures would it be the same basic thing, just replacing organic textures with metal??

Well the tutorial will be for VRay cause this one was done in Vray but it can easily be done in MR with simple modifications, if I have the time I will try to do the tutorial in both MR and VRay.
